Teams of fifth-graders from Tonganoxie Middle School completed their seasons last month in a Kansas City United State Sports Specialty Association league.

The two teams, one a girls squad and the other a boys team, played their games at Okun Field House in Shawnee.

The girls team won its league, while the boys squad finished third.

Tonganoxie’s teams played in about 50 games during a season that started last November.

The squads also competed in the Oskaloosa Winter Classic against teams primarily consisting of sixth-graders.

The girls placed third, while the boys finished fourth at the tourney. Both Tonganoxie teams lost to the eventual tournament champions.

The boys team consisted of Andrew Sandberg, Ben Johnson, Jon Irwin, Eric McPherson, Evan Stilgenbauer, Ian Finkbiner, Luke Carey, Tyler Ford, Travis Wood, Eric Tate and Joseph Wolf.
