August 1, 2007

Board selects milk supplier

Roberts will be Tonganoxie school district's dairy supplier for the 2007-08 school year.

The school board, which met in special session July 25, unanimously selected Roberts, which was the low bidder, against A&E and Meadow Gold.

Some of the bid prices included half-pint skim milk for 18.4 cents a carton, half-pint 2 percent for 19.9 cents and half-pint 2 percent chocolate milk for 20.3 cents. Five-pound containers of cottage cheese were bid at $6.50, the same price A&E quoted. Meadow Gold priced a 5-pound container at $7.70.

Tonganoxie Superintendent Richard Erickson said after the meeting that, although milk prices have increased drastically in recent months, the bids were comparable to last year's bids.

Instructors hired for school year

The board made the following hires for the upcoming school year: Hershel Martin Jr., middle school math; R.J. Dake, eighth-grade technology instructor; and Shelly Hunter, sixth-grade technology instructor.

The board also accepted the resignation of Tracey Weldeier as first grade paraprofessional.
