I found it interesting that Congresswoman Boyda recently labeled Americans For Progress as a “special interest” group. This was intentional because the term carries a heavy negative connotation and her objective was to dismiss their opposition to her “earmark” of Federal funds for a prison museum.

About 10:50 p.m. Saturday, George and Gloria Donahue, Olathe, were turning left, or east, to get onto Kansas Avenue from U.S. Highway 24-40 when Luis Ortiz-Vargas, Basehor, traveling with Chelan Lewis of Shawnee, ran into the Donahues’ vehicle.

Last week’s Interstate-35 West bridge collapse in Minneapolis was catastrophic. Consider these facts: An estimated 60 cars plunged toward the Mississippi River on Aug. 1. The bridge carried an average of 141,000 vehicles per day. Initially, 30 people were reported to be trapped underwater in their vehicles.
Practices to start

Monday will be the first day for fall sports practice at Tonganoxie High. Cross country will be the first team to practice, with a midnight run on the east campus Monday morning. The cross country team’s next practice will be Tuesday at 6 a.m.
