Nyhart -- 50th

Shirley and Sy Nyhart, Leavenworth, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception hosted by their children and grandchildren from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday Sep. 2, at the Riverfront Community Center in Leavenworth.

The couple was married Sept. 1, 1957, at the Methodist Church in Horton.

The couple both grew up in Atchison County and graduated from Atchison County Community High School in Effingham.

Sy is retired after 44 years in the K-State County Extension Service, serving as the agricultural agent and county Extension director in Leavenworth County from 1987 to 2003. He previously served as county Extension 4-H agent in Russell County, and as agricultural agent and Extension director in Phillips County.

Shirley has a bachelor's degree in home economics education from KSU and is a 4-H sewing leader and kindergarten Sunday school teacher.

The couple has four children: Renee Nelson, Overland Park; Scott, Shawnee; Michelle Briggs, Leavenworth; and Linda Herrera, Ottawa.

The couple has nine grandchildren.
