School cooks want kitchen finished

By Shawn Linenberger - | Aug 29, 2007

The Tonganoxie Elementary School kitchen is the final area to be completed as part of the $1 million summer renovations at the school.

Patti Rachford, cafeteria manager, said the kitchen needs to be completed soon.

“If there’s anyway we can try to get the kitchen going,” Rachford said. “Because it’s really really hard on all of us, the kitchen girls, right now.

We’re going to the middle school to cook and then we’re going to the high school to cook.”

She also said the situation makes deliveries an adventure because they are for TES but must be delivered to the high school or middle school.”

TES principal Tammie George also mentioned that the temporary use of plasticware and paper plates was becoming expensive.

The board discussed equipment that needed to be purchased and asked for the cooking staff’s input.

Director of operations Jamie Brun asked Ron Leslie, who is a chef, to make suggestions to the board and offer any advice as it related to kitchen equipment.

Ron Leslie is the husband of board president Leana Leslie.
