Letters to the editor: Skating’s no crime

By Staff | Feb 14, 2007

To the editor:

I think a skate park would be a good idea for the town because it would give kids a place to skate and also get them off people’s property. Besides, I don’t think that skaters’ parents like having to get their boards back from the school. A couple of my friends were just walking after getting “busted” by a teacher for skating behind the school, which isn’t a crime. The janitor grabbed their boards from them and locked them in his truck. I’m pretty sure you would be mad if your child’s Christmas present was taken away just for skateboarding. I mean that’s kind of like stealing in a way, considering that a decent board costs more than $100.

But that’s not the point. The point is that there are skaters in Tonganoxie and they need somewhere to go where they can just have a good time without getting in trouble. Thank you for reading this letter and supporting a skate park.

Letters to the editor: Prayers for former principal

By Staff | Feb 14, 2007

To the editor:

I am sure most people in the wonderful town of Tonganoxie know well who I am. I would just like to send out my prayers to Mr. D, Jerry Daskoski.

When I read his first statement about him and his wife growing apart, her asking him to take a job with less stress and more time for her, I believed in my heart that an incident such as this was a BLESSING and a prayer that was answered.

I know it is a very hard thing to go through, but it was in God’s plan. I just want Mr. D to know that I share his sorrow since I went through the same thing.

Please ask God for strength and trust Him to guide you in the right direction. You will get through this.

Letters to the editor: No need for administrator

By Staff | Feb 14, 2007

To the editor:

So, we are going to have another election about hiring a county administrator. After it being rejected by the voters in 1998 and 2002, is it possible to get this question decided?

Why are there always candidates standing in line who want to be county commissioner, yet do not want to do the job once elected? It appears they like the idea of being commissioner, but that is as far as it goes. If the citizens of Leavenworth County want more government that costs more money, and with governing responsibility more diluted and less accountable, then they should vote to have a county administrator.

I am perfectly happy with services in Leavenworth County. I have good access to the commissioner in my district, and I believe that his explanations and responses are more timely and accountable than if he had to refer to an administrator before giving me answers. If I am not satisfied, I know what I must do when he comes up for reelection. Why should I pay more for less?

Letters to the editor: Significant date passes quietly

By Staff | Feb 14, 2007

To the editor:

Another Jan. 22 has passed, many people not even aware of the significance of that date. That is the date when it became legal in America to kill babies not yet born.

Perhaps one day that decision will be overturned. I hope and pray so. But until then, I mourn the millions of precious lives lost and I pay tribute to the women who, in difficult situations, choose life for their baby.

There is no such thing as an unwanted child. Many couples are waiting and hoping to adopt.

America stands for every individual’s right to pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That right should extend to babies not yet born. Perhaps someday it will.
