Tonganoxie girls rout Silver Lake in tourney semifinals; boys fall to Eudora
The last two seasons, Silver Lake and Tonganoxie played for the Tonganoxie Invitational girls tournament title, with THS winning in 2005 and Silver Lake last year.
The squad's met a round earlier this year, but it didn't matter. It wasn't the classic matchup it had been the previous two seasons.
A defensive battle in the first half, Tonganoxie led 17-7 at halftime, but found its offensive rhythm in the second half on its way to a 50-20 win Friday. THS improved to 10-0 on the season and will play Kaw Valley League rival Lansing in the tournament finals. The Lions defeated Eudora in the other semifinal game.
in boys action, Tonganoxie battled Eudora in a back-and-forth contest, but Eudora held on to an eight-point halftime lead and won, 67-58.
Tonganoxie (7-3) will play Immaculata at 2:30 p.m Saturday in the third-place game. Eudora (7-4) will play Atchison in the championship game at 7:30 p.m.
