Obituary: Ina Uhlrich

Mass of Christian Burial for Ina Uhlrich, 97, was celebrated Saturday, July 21, at St. Joseph of the Valley Church in Easton. Burial was in St. Thomas Cemetery, Springdale

Mrs. Uhlrich died of natural causes, surrounded by family, Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at Johnson County Nursing Center in Olathe.

She was born Jan. 12, 1910, in Easton, the smaller of twin girls to Peter and Anna (Nyhart) Beying.

She was an athletic child, helping on the farm and enjoying high school basketball. After graduation from high school, she worked in a radio factory in Atchison before teaching for 13 years in rural schools in Leavenworth County. She attended Kansas State Teacher’s College in Emporia.

Mrs. Uhlrich and her husband lived in the Springdale community of Leavenworth County. She was a homemaker who enjoyed her family, canning, sewing, reading, keeping a diary, and going to community dances with her husband. She was an avid gardener who enjoyed the outdoors, was also a leader in the Green Promise 4-H Club in Leavenworth County, and a religious education teacher at St. Joseph of the Valley Catholic Church, as well as many civic contributions including election volunteer.

She married Joseph Uhlrich at the close of World War II. He died in 1994.

Survivors include her twin sister, Nina Schrick, Nortonville; a daughter: Rosemary Pratt and her husband Dennis, Ottawa, Kan.; two sons: Charles and his wife, Clara, of Raytown, Mo., and David, McLouth; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
