Our View: Home of champions
Those who think Tonganoxie's claim to championship fame ended with Danielle Boatwright's success on the CBS reality show "Survivor" are wrong.
Two Tonganoxie women, Roxi Grizzle and Maggie Gratny, recently earned the moniker "champion" for their resumes.
Grizzle, competing as a junior for the Tonganoxie High School track team, threw the javelin an astounding 151 feet, 9 inches, to claim the title at the Class 4A state track and field championships. For a kicker, Grizzle's teammate, Ali Pistora, took the silver in the same event.
Gratny, a freshman at Texas A&M University, recently helped lead the Aggies to a title at the Varsity Equestrian National Championship Western event -- the equivalent of a national championship in collegiate equestrian competition.
These young women deserve praise and recognition for their efforts.
