Tonganoxie City Fire Department

  • Firefighters responded with Leavenworth County Emergency Medical Service at 8:22 a.m. April 24, 7:13 p.m. Thursday, 1:18 p.m. Saturday, and 12:36 a.m., 1:17 a.m. and 12:29 p.m. Sunday.
  • At 12:06 p.m. April 23, firefighters responded to Woodfield and Laming roads for a small fuel spill.
  • Firefighters responded to another small fuel spill at Fastrax Conoco along East U.S. Highway 24-40 in Tonganoxie.
  • At 9:39 p.m. Saturday, firefighters responded to an illegal burn in the 1300 block of East Fourth Street.

Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office

  • About 4:45 p.m. April 24, a 41-year-old Tonganoxie man came home to his residence in the 19400 block of 222nd Street. The man discovered that his 38-year-old wife had been drinking throughout the day. They got into an argument and the woman cut her husband in the neck with a kitchen knife. The husband ran to their bedroom, with the couple’s children, and locked the door. He called law enforcement officials from the bedroom, reports said. When one officer arrived, the woman lunged at the officer with a knife. She was arrested for domestic violence with a knife, aggravated batter and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and taken to Leavenworth County Jail. Leavenworth County Emergency Medical Service treated the husband at the scene, but the wound did not require additional treatment.
  • Sandra Kay Warczakoski, 48, Lansing, was driving about 4 a.m. April 25 on Kansas Highway 5, just west of Tontine Road, Lansing, when she swerved to avoid a raccoon in her lane. She lost control of the vehicle and went into the westbound ditch. Because of the ditch’s deep angle, the vehicle overturned, reports said. Warczakoski was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. Leavenworth County Fire District No. 1 responded. Drugs or alcohol were not thought to be contributing factors, reports said.
  • Just before 7 p.m. April 25, deputies were dispatched to the 18300 block of 182nd Street, Tonganoxie, for report of a dispute between a 29-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man. When officers arrived, the woman told them that the man entered her residence to speak with his girlfriend, with whom he had just gotten into a verbal argument. The victim told the man to leave, and he refused, reports said. The man was arrested for criminal trespass and was taken to Leavenworth County Jail.
  • Catherine Smith, 19, Leavenworth, was driving about 6:40 p.m. Thursday about 0.2 of a mile north of McIntyre on 159th Street when a passenger, 17-year-old Genevieve Smith, also of Leavenworth, created an “interruption” inside the car, according to reports. The driver looked down to help with the situation and inadvertently swerved off the road and struck a mailbox. The driver became scared and left the scene, reports said.
  • Between 12:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday, someone entered an unlocked detached garage in the 21200 block of McLouth Road and took more than $200 in currency, cigarettes and a key ring with access to an unlocked vehicle that was parked in the garage.

Tonganoxie Police Department

  • The wallet of an employee of Dollar General, 826 Northstar Court, was taken sometime between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. April 24 The employee had sat the wallet at the cash register. She estimated the value of the wallet including its contents to be $15. There was no cash in the wallet.
  • Around 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, Vladimir Hantatuc of Baldwinsville, N.Y. backed his black 2006 Kenworth truck into the parked red 1982 Chevy CK1500 belonging to Jeremy Willis of Tonganoxie. The accident occurred when Hantatuc, 31, was attempting to deliver his cargo to Vet-Vax Inc., 1203 U.S. Highway 24-40. The total damage cost was not reported.
