Recount upholds election outcome

By Staff | Nov 1, 2007

A hand recount Thursday morning changed the overall tally but not the outcome in the Basehor-Linwood school bond referendum.

The recount, which cost $500 and was paid for by district patron David Jons, tally put the vote at 2,210 in favor of the $39.9 million proposal vs. 2, 175 against.

The Leavenworth County Board of Canvassers had certified a 2,209-2,180 vote when it met Monday.

The election outcome will allow the district to construct a new third- through fifth-grade elementary school costing $11.45 million; a new $24.8 million sixth- through eighth-grade middle school; six additional classrooms and renovations at Glenwood Ridge Elementary School at $2.5 million; $750,000 in renovations at Linwood Elementary; and a new soccer field costing $400,000.
