Tonganoxie, McLouth softball games called off
The first two doubleheaders on the schedule for the Tonganoxie High softball team have been postponed. The Chieftains were supposed to start their season on Monday at Jeff West, but that game as well as their matchup with Basehor, originally scheduled for Thursday, will be played at later dates. The Chieftains season will now get underway next Thursday at Mill Valley.
McLouth softball 2-0
The McLouth High softball team had its Monday night game at Oskaloosa rained out, but the Bulldogs are 2-0 on the season after blanking Athchison, 12-0 and 11-0 on the road Friday.
In the first game, MHS pitcher Lezley Lawson threw all five innings, no-hitting Atchison and striking out 12 batters in the process.
A number of Bulldogs had impressive performances in the rout. Missy Rome was 2-for-3 with a homer. Lawson went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Catcher Kendall Patterson was 2-for-2 with a pair of base hits and two walks. Kaley Patterson had three hits and a double.
The second contest wasn’t much different. The Bulldogs won 11-0, that time with Sam Farris tossing a shutout. The senior allowed just one hit and racked up a whopping 14 strikeouts in six innings.
Farris also hit a triple for the Bulldogs in the second win. Kendall Patterson had two singles to finish the day with four hits.
MHS is scheduled to travel to Pleasant Ridge for another doubleheader on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
