Entering Monday’s doubleheader at Piper, Tonganoxie High’s baseball team had outscored its opponents 33-15 in its first five games. But the Chieftains good fortunes ended against the Pirates, who swept the doubleheader with a 13-3 win in game one and a 15-0, three-inning victory in the second contest.

City to hold Safe Route meeting

In an effort to encourage and enable Tonganoxie’s children to walk and bike to school, The City of Tonganoxie and the Tonganoxie School District will launch its Safe Routes to School Program with a community meeting at 6:30 p.m. tonight, at the Tonganoxie Middle School.

Heidi Karn-Barker received a warm welcome from her church family during service on Sunday, March 30, at the First Baptist Church of McLouth. She’s been dismissed from the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., and is feeling very well following her lung transplant.

What an NCAA Tournament. What a celebration on Massachusetts Street in Lawrence after Kansas University, on Monday, won its third NCAA title with an improbable overtime win. Throughout the tournament, there also was a handful of great upsets and Cinderella stories.
