December 3, 2008
Tonganoxie High School will participate in the 2008-09 Quest academic competition Saturday at Washburn University. The contest allows teams of high school students from across Kansas to compete against one another in answering questions on topics such as art, literature, history, math and science.
Teams earning the top 16 scores advance to the finals and return to Topeka several times for taping sessions. The televised Quest competition will air on KTWU (Sunflower Broadband Ch. 11) from February through May 2009, when the championship team will be named.
The contest is co-sponsored by KTWU, a PBS affiliate, and Washburn University. The Kansas National Education Association and Quest Resource Corporation are partial underwriters of Quest tapings.
Tonganoxie team members are: junior Austin Baragary, son of Bill and Kathy Baragary, Tonganoxie; senior Robert Brotherton, son of Jose and Christina Hernandez, Tonganoxie; senior Thomas Dohle, son of Tom and April Dohle, Tonganoxie; junior Mary O’Brien, daughter of Eddie and Connie O’Brien, Tonganoxie; senior Kyle Gersbeck, son of Clarence and Marie Clark, McLouth; and senior Austin Smith, son of Frank and Jeanne Smith, Tonganoxie.
The coach is Ron Lewis.

Point of View
If you were on the Tonganoxie City Council, how would you have handled the liquor ordinance issue?
I would probably vote to keep the ordinance, even though it conflicts with the former attorney general’s opinion. The mayor has a good point that our local economy can’t afford to allow other liquor stores to be receiving business on Sundays that our liquor stores could be receiving.
