Jarbalo Jottings

December 17, 2008

Correction: An item in the Dec. 10 Jarbalo Jottings about candlelight services should have read: There will be a candlelight service at 4 p.m. at Fairmount United Methodist Church and a candlelight service at 7 p.m. at Jarbalo United Methodist Church. Pastor Larry Grove will be in charge of both services on Christmas Eve.

Thamar Barnett attended a party for the 8th birthday of Taylor Barnett, her great-granddaughter. Taylor’s parents, Loren and Kersten Barnett of Lansing, played host to the party Dec. 7.

Jarbalo United Methodist Women met Dec. 10 for their annual Christmas dinner and meeting. The members answered roll call and reported 41 care calls. It was decided to give a gift to the Good Shepherd Thrift store. They also brought the articles they had bought for a Christmas basket for a family registered at the thrift store.

Pastor Larry Grove had the program. He told of Christmases past and had a Christmas quiz.

Those attending were Rosie Oelschlaeger, Bid Sheppard, Gladys Steffen, Frances Jeannin, Marilyn Oxley, Peachez Joles, Thamar Barnett and Pastor Grove. Guests were Orville Oelschlaeger and Ron Joles.

Sunday afternoon Bid Sheppard went to a first birthday celebration for Reese Aufdemberge, daughter of Joel Jr. and Lacie Aufdemberge of Leavenworth.

The Gateway Clubs of Leavenworth and Tonganoxie met at Jarbalo United Methodist Church Sunday afternoon. The Bell Ringers choir of the First Christian Church of Leavenworth performed and then everyone else attending joined in singing Christmas songs.
