Tonganoxie Police Department

¢ Around 1:25 p.m. Jan. 29, two vehicles collided at the intersection of Fourth and Main streets. Jamie Nick, 24, Tonganoxie, was heading south on Main Street when she attempted to stop at the stop sign. The slick roads caused her to enter into the intersection, and she struck a vehicle belonging to Delores Edmonds, 64, Tonganoxie. Minimal damage was sustained by both vehicles.

¢ Around 1:25 p.m. Jan. 29, Ryan Wolfe, 17, Tonganoxie, rear-ended a vehicle driven by Heather Lorensen, 20, Mayetta, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 24-40 and Kansas Highway 16. Lorensen was stopped at the intersection when Wolfe, who was heading south on U.S. 24-40, attempted to stop but the icy roads caused him collide with Lorensen’s vehicle. Each car’s damage was estimated at under $1,000.

¢ Around 1:50 p.m. Jan. 29, vehicles belonging to two Tonganoxie residents collided at the intersection of First and Main streets. Ashley Nester, 26, was at the stop sign on the east side of the intersection when Theadore Stoutenburg Jr., 19, was heading north on Main Street. He was attempting a right hand turn onto First Street, but his vehicle slid on the road and collided with Nester’s vehicle.

¢ Around 2:20 a.m. Feb. 2, a 22-year-old Lawrence woman was stopped for speeding at the 100 block of Seventh Street. Officers performed a field sobriety test and then arrested the woman for DUI. She was taken to the Leavenworth County Jail.

Tonganoxie City Fire Department

¢ At 3:12 p.m. Jan. 28, firefighters served as standby for Fairmount Tonwship Fire Department for a possible fire at Glenwood Ridge Elementary School. It was found to be a false alarm.

¢ At 3:56 p.m. Jan. 28, firefighters assisted a person with nonworking smoke detectors.

¢ Firefighters responded at 6:04 p.m. Jan. 28, to the 600 block of East Eighth Street for a possible kitchen fire. The fire was contained to a cooking container.

¢ Firefighters responded with Leavenworth County Emergency Medical Service at 10:26 a.m. and 6:39 p.m. Jan. 29, 12:22 a.m. Jan. 30, 11:40 a.m. and 12:01 p.m. Thursday, 6:22 a.m. and 7:43 a.m. Saturday and 5:16 p.m. Saturday.

¢ At 11:14 a.m. Jan. 29, firefighters provided first aid to someone who walked into the fire station.

¢ At 12:22 a.m. Wednesday, firefighters responded to the 1100 block of Ridge for a possible carbon monoxide emergency. No hazard was found.

¢ At 5:57 p.m. Thursday, firefighters responded to a fuel spill at Casey’s General Store gasoline station.

¢ Firefighters responded to the 1000 block of Tonganoxie Road on Saturday for a possible chemical leak. No hazard was found.

Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office

¢ Around 8:22 a.m. Jan. 25, Tasha Williams, 23, Lansing, lost control of her vehicle on Kansas Highway 92, about one and a half miles east of county road 33. Williams was heading east on K-92, when she entered the ditch on the north side and struck a tree. Williams was transported to Cushing hospital by EMS. Weather conditions were blamed for the accident.

¢ Sometime around noon on Jan. 25, a 53-year-old Kansas City, Kan. man reported that someone had shot his Ford F250 truck on his property in the 17500 block of Donahoo Road. The front windows of the truck were shot out and bullet holes were found on the passenger door, left front corner panel and two shots went into the engine. There are no suspects at this time.

¢ Around 2:30 a.m. Jan. 26, a 22-year-old Leavenworth man was pulled over for a traffic stop around Fourth and Limit streets. The man admitted to drinking and then failed a field sobriety test. He was arrested for DUI, driving with a suspended license and for not having proof of insurance. He was taken to the Leavenworth County Jail where he failed further testing. The man also had an active warrant through the Leavenworth County District Court.

¢ A 20-year-old Bonner Springs man was arrested for failing to report an accident, leaving the scene of an accident, no proof of insurance, minor in possession and driving on the property of another around 8:45 p.m. Jan 26 in the 14200 block of Metro Avenue. The owner of the property sustained $350 damage to his property.

¢ Deputies responded to a report of an auto theft around 10:45 p.m. Jan. 28, at the intersection of 238th Street and Kansas Highway 32. At the intersection deputies made contact with a 25-year-old Lawrence man who was then arrested for driving with a revoked license. The passenger, a 24-year-old Lawrence woman, was arrested for possession of methamphetamines, depressants and drug paraphernalia. The pair was taken to the Leavenworth County Jail.

¢ A vehicle with three passengers rolled over onto its top about 12:30 p.m. Jan. 29, about a half of a mile east of MM10 on Kansas Highway 192. The vehicle, driven by Anthony Dean, 44, Easton, slid on the highway and hit the road sign before rolling over and coming to rest on the north side ditch. In the vehicle with Dean were Dawn Dean, 43, Elizabeth Dean, 14, and Georgia Dean, 12. All occupants were wearing their seatbelts and no injuries were reported.

¢ A vehicle involved in an accident around 7:05 p.m. Jan. 29, about a quarter of a mile west of County Road 17 on Kansas Highway 92, caught fire as the driver was attempting to get out of the car. Larry Bishop, 70, Leavenworth, was driving west on K-92 when he lost control of his 2000 Ford Escort and went into the south side ditch. Bishop was wearing his seatbelt and refused medical treatment. District One Fire Department responded to the scene.

¢ Two Leavenworth residents were involved in an injury accident around 9:11 a.m. Jan. 30, on Kansas Highway 92, about a half-mile west of 175th Street. Douglas Cordt, 16, was driving with Robert Cordt, 39, east on K-92. The teen lost control of the vehicle when the engine shut down. The boy could not control the vehicle and went into the south side ditch. The Cordts’ injuries were minor, but he was taken to Cushing Hospital. The Cordts were wearing their seatbelts.

¢ A Lawrence man was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital after colliding with a school bus around 2 p.m. Jan. 30, on Kansas Highway 32 and County Road 2. Leo Kreautzer, 81, Basehor, was driving the school bus south across the intersection when Herald Smith collided with the left rear driver’s side of the school bus. Smith’s vehicle sustained substantial damage and he was taken to the hospital for neck pain. Kreautzer was not injured and the bus was not occupied.

¢ A 50-year-old Tonganoxie woman reported several items were taken from her home sometime before 5:38 p.m. Friday in the 18100 block of 238th Street. Among the items taken were a Smith and Wesson .38 Caliber revolver, a gold ring and watch, and 10 $2 bills. The woman stated she had only recently received the items back from storage after a Sept. 29 house fire.

¢ Around 10:14 p.m. Friday, deputies responded to a call of a fight in progress between a 48-year-old Linwood man and his intoxicated 25-year-old son in the 12500 block of 189th Street. When the first two deputies arrived, they stopped and arrested the son for DUI while he was leaving the scene in his vehicle. They transported him to the Leavenworth County Jail. Two other deputies made contact with the father. The report stated that the man had minor cuts to his right arm as a result of the disturbance. The man declined medical treatment. A glass door panel was also broken during the fight. The deputies added domestic battery and criminal damage to the son’s charges.

¢ A 36-year-old Tonganoxie man was arrested for DUI around 5:50 p.m. Saturday, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 24-40 and Ridge Street. The man was stopped for a traffic infraction when officers smelled alcohol on his breath. The man admitted to consuming some alcoholic beverages. After initial field testing, the man was transported to the Leavenworth County Jail for further testing.

¢ Two Leavenworth teens were involved in an accident around 10:25 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Kansas 192 and Seven Sisters Road. Wade Beckerjack, 16, was driving the vehicle with Zachary Gretzinger, 17, as his passenger. Beckerjack lost control of the vehicle on the icy road and slid into a concrete barrier. The two were wearing their seatbelts and were not injured.

¢ Four Leavenworth residents were involved in an accident around 10:40 a.m. Sunday on Kansas Highway 92 about a half-mile of Leavenworth City limits. Victoria McCombs, 36, was driving with Nathan Michaud, 34, east on K-92. Sandra Jauering, 59, was driving with John Jauering, 59, east on K-92. McCombs lost control of her vehicle on the slush-covered road and struck Jauering’s vehicle. No injuries were reported.
