Winter weather advisory

February 21, 2008

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Leavenworth County, in effect until midnight tonight.

Light freezing drizzle, snow and sleet should be expected to continue through the evening hours.

A thin glaze of ice or snow can be expected on surface roads, causing travel difficulties such as slippery roads and limited visibility.

Travelers are urged to use extra caution as roads will likely be very hazardous.

Officials from both the McLouth and Tonganoxie school districts said there were no current plans to close schools early.

Does the city of Tonganoxie have a sidewalk snow removal policy in place? In reading more about the Lawrence policy on the LJWorld site, it had me thinking about the fact that most sidewalks I've seen this winter have never been cleared during any of the number of snowstorms we've seen.
