Board holds special meeting

By Shawn Linenberger - | Jul 30, 2008

The Tonganoxie School Board met in executive session for a total of 1 hour, 15 minutes Monday during a special meeting at Tonganoxie Middle School.

When the board came out of its sessions – the first for 45 minutes and the second for 30, with both held to discuss personnel matters – the board approved an organizational chart for its staff. In addition, resignations were accepted.

The organizational chart is similar to one that was drawn up in 2007. This chart, however, has building principals, directors of transportation, technology and maintenance, as well as central office staff, reporting to the assistant superintendent, who reports to the superintendent.

Previously, the director of operations and building principals reported to the superintendent. The assistant superintendent position, which recently was created, replaces the director of operations position. Kyle Hayden was hired as the first assistant superintendent.

Board member Leana Leslie also said kitchen managers formerly were on a direct line to director of operations. Now, they report to building principals, as do assistant principals, athletics directors, staff and lead custodians.

Leslie also mentioned that she wanted paraprofessionals to be evaluated by building principals, but with input from the teachers with whom they work.

At the meeting, the board also accepted the resignations of transportation director Sylvia Kesinger and bus driver Alison Kaighin.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11 at the Tonganoxie Middle School library.
