March 26, 2008

Seven local prep athletes will be busy passing, setting, spiking and hooping Sunday at Highland Community College. And two of their coaches will be roaming the sidelines.

HCC will host the 22nd Annual Northeast Kansas All Star Basketball games and the 6th Annual Volleyball match. This year, five Tonganoxie High athletes, two THS coaches and two McLouth High athletes will all be participating.

THS seniors Liz Baska, Hannah Herrstrom and Tracie Hileman all were selected for the volleyball game, although Baska will play on the Navy team while the others will play on the Gold team for THS volleyball coaches Brandon and Tiffany Parker.

The girls basketball game will feature McLouth's Abby Annis as well as Chieftains Christy Weller and Shannon Carlin. Annis and Carlin will play against Weller's squad.

Just one local boys basketball player was selected as an all-star: McLouth's Mike Rome.

The volleyball match will begin at 2 p.m., the girls basketball game at 4 p.m., and the boys basketball game will conclude the festivities, to be held in Allen Field House on the HCC campus, at 6 p.m..

Area high school coaches nominated the participants for each game.
