Mark Smelser will compete in the USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships again this year.
He is the conference champion for the third consecutive year, representing Kansas State University on Friday, Saturday and Sunday on the Colorado State University campus in Fort Collins, Colo.
He won the national championship in 2006, placed 10th last year (both competitions were held in Lawrence, and Kansas University played host to both) and is one of the favorites to win it again this year.
¢ American Legion Auxiliary No. 393 will sponsor its annual bake sale and luncheon Saturday at the McLouth Community Center. The bake sale opens at 9 a.m. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.. Proceeds from the fundraisers remain in the McLouth community, and are distributed to scholarships and girls state delegates.

¢ McLouth High School's Alumni Banquet will be held in the Purple (North) Gym at 6 p.m. Saturday. All graduating seniors, alumni and faculty (past and present) are welcome. Please bring a covered dish to share.
