"Everything flows, nothing stands still."
In the life of the library, we are flowing toward a new online catalog system, floating with the bugs for Summer Reading and searching the waters for a new director in June.
The NExpress libraries are migrating to our own shared library catalog using the open source software Koha ZOOM. Unlike the Library's switch to Sirsi, which involved issuing new library cards and re-barcoding the collection, this next improvement in library services should occur with little inconvenience to you. Migration to the new system will begin Memorial Day weekend and continue throughout the summer. The first step will limit holds by NExpress libraries, including our library, to those items available at other NExpress libraries. Likewise, only NExpress libraries will be able to place holds on our items. During this transition, we will help you get the materials you need with interlibrary loan or special purchasing. Koha ZOOM is a much-improved system in which you can see a history of the items you have checked out, keep lists of your own searches and requests, and easily get materials from the other NExpress libraries and even from the state-wide Kansas Library Catalog.
Everyone is invited to "Catch the Reading Bug" during the Summer Reading Program from May 23 to July 24, co-sponsored by the Tonganoxie Recreation Commission and Parents as Teachers. Every Thursday there will be a performer or event at the Library. On Fridays, you can watch a bug-themed movie on our new wide-screen television, and on Mondays, Miss Carolyn will have a fun buggy story time and craft! Stop by the library to get your reading log and calendar of events.
On June 9, I will start as the new Technology Consultant at the Northeast Kansas Library System in Lawrence. I will miss the daily fun of working with the staff, patrons and board of this library. Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your library director.
