TMS wrestlers have successful weekend

Tonganoxie Middle School grapplers picked up 19 medals, including nine first-place finishes, on Saturday at a tournament in Lansing.

The Warriors are now 189-101 this season with 137 pins in their matches.

TMS is 8-1 in duals after defeating Leavenworth, Patton and Lansing this past week.

TMS eighth grade girls win three

The Tonganoxie Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team went 3-0 this past week.

The Warriors defeated California Trail, 34-18, Perry, 25-13, and Piper, 38-26.

Jo Kissinger had 13 points, five rebounds and three assists in the home victory against CTJH. Jennifer Whitledge added 10 points, five steals and five boards.

Kissinger had 12 points and eight rebounds at home against Perry. Madee Walker led TMS with four steals and Jessica Sommers passed out three assists.

In the road victory at Piper, Whitledge led the team with 15 points, six steals, six rebounds and two blocks. Hannah Kemp scored seven points and grabbed four rebounds.

The Warriors’ eighth grade B team went 1-2 this past week, picking up a 12-2 victory against Perry. Coach Chris Weller said he was extremely proud of the TMS defense in the win. Molly Welsh had four points in the victory.

Jaycee Knipp led TMS with six points in a 27-22 loss to California Trail.

Welsh led the Warriors with seven points in a 32-17 loss at Piper and Knipp scored six.

Waldeier grabs 50 boards in three games

Tonganoxie Middle School’s seventh grade basketball team had a rough swing, going 0-3, this past week.

The Warriors lost, 25-19, at Piper despite a double-double from Katelyn Waldeier, who scored 10 points and grabbed an astounding 23 rebounds.

The following day, TMS traveled to Perry and fell, 31-14. Alissa Donnelly had six points and Waldeier continued her domination of the glass, pulling down 18 boards.

In a home rematch with Piper on Thursday at TMS, Tonganoxie fell, 35-15. Marissa Martin and Donnelly led the scoring with four points each. Donnelly had 10 rebounds and Waldeier secured nine.

The seventh grade B team suffered the first defeat of its season in a 17-16 loss at Piper. Shelby Letourneau scored eight points.

The Warriors then lost again at Perry, 24-14. Kourtni Campbell led the team with 4 points.

But TMS got back on track at home on Thursday with a 22-19 victory against Piper.
