Letter to the editor: Need for better behavior
I am writing because of a blatant lack of respect from bored teens. A week ago we woke up on Monday morning to find that our mailbox, along with a few others on our road outside of the city limits had been beat on. Some of the mailboxes had even been completely knocked over and we found one mailbox had been thrown in our pasture after it was destroyed.
This isn’t the only damage that is being done. There are street signs stolen constantly, barricade lights being knocked out, etc.
Parents, do you know what your kids are doing?
Have you ever taught them to respect other people’s property?
Do they have too much free time on their hands?
If your kids have enough free time to destroy my mailbox and the other property on our road, they need a part-time job or to learn right from wrong. I work very hard for the things I have and I do not appreciate waking up to find that someone thought it would be fun to destroy my property. I will now get to replace my mailbox and that will be one additional cost that I was not expecting.
I hope that if you haven’t already, that you have a talk with your kids about responsibility and respect. Know where your kids are and give them a curfew if they don’t have one already. They should also realize that if they think it is fun to destroy a mailbox, it is a federal offense!
