Tastebuds get workout at event
Tonganoxie taste buds were tantalized Thursday night for the first ever Taste of Tonganoxie.
On hand were familiar places like Daniel’s BBQ, Bichelmeyer’s Steakhouse, Domino’s Pizza and Gambino’s Pizza.
While this was a time for residents to retry some of their local favorites, this was also a time to get to know some of the new flavors in town.
On hand for their first public event were Carlos and Annie Aguero, owners of Main Street Mexican Food by Carlos. They were on hand to give out samples of the chicken quesadillas that Carlos makes at the Ammana élan Hotel every weekend.
The restaurant has been open for the last three weeks, but Carlos and Annie have owned restaurants before.
Bill Hopper, owner of Daniel’s BBQ, was also there to let Tonganoxie residents know that he was, “going back to the basics” and making food that everyone would like. But, he said he was also working on some new things.
Cheryl Hanback, executive director of the Tonganoxie Chamber of Commerce, said it sold more than 100 tickets to the event.
“We did very well for our first event like this and are very encouraged,” Hanback said Tuesday. “We planning an even better event next year.”
