Aunt Norie’s Sewing Room

September 18, 2008

Garage sales are great news theses days. They now have planned strips of city-wide garage sales advertised along highways where you can plan and follow certain highways across state after state. Lois tells me she and Glenda have thoughts of doing such. "But you would need to plan, take their motor home and perhaps a tow trailer," she said. What a vacation that would be for these "really hooked" or perhaps those flea market, or antique collectors.

Dorothea H. has this favorite (of hers) quote: "If making two blades of grass grow where only one grew before is a feat to be proud of, then surely the making of a comfortable, becoming attractive dress from a garment discarded and seemingly useless certainly is cause for rejoicing."

She tells us she had for years looked for special fabrics in those garments to be reused. She rips the garments apart, pressing out the pieces ready to be remade into other garments, pillows, quilts, etc.

Just hang a sign out in front or down on the corner, on any weekend and you'll have plenty of customers. Newspapers have long lists of garage sales. Check them out and go have fun. You are almost sure to bump into a friend or neighbor.

Take the kids along. They'll find all sorts of stuff they will say they "gotta have this, mom" about. You'll find hand and garden tools, car stuff, furniture, jewelry, buttons and bows, lots of these, them and those. Anything and everything.

Have fun. Bye, and God Bless.

Keep this land of ours in your prayers.
