Kaw Valley League Football Report: Week Three

By Staff | Sep 20, 2008

A controversial finish allowed Lansing to survive a late threat by Bonner Springs. In the process, the Lions moved to 3-0 for the season with all wins coming against Kaw Valley League foes.

Mill Valley and Perry-Lecompton are the other unbeatens in league play. Both dropped nonconference games in the season-openers, but have knocked off back-to-back KVL opponents. Mill Valley fended off a stiff challenge from Basehor-Linwood on Friday night. Meanwhile, Perry-Lecompton hammered Tonganoxie.

Lansing senior Brenton Smith rushed for 112 yards against Bonner Springs and sits atop the league rushing standings with 587 yards and eight touchdowns on 81 carries. In comparison, the Lions’ three opponents this season have rushed for a combined 387 yards.

Mill Valley senior Nick Woods, the reigning KVL rushing king, rumbled for 208 yards against Basehor and lurks close behind in the rushing race.

Games to watch next week that could wreak havoc on the league standings include Mill Valley at Bonner Springs and Lansing at Bishop Ward.
