Letter: Salvation Army seeking holiday sprit in form of volunteers

By Staff | Dec 1, 2009

To the editor:

You may have noticed that Salvation Army bell ringing has started in Leavenworth County or maybe not.

There are several locations that continue to go un-staffed due to the decrease in volunteer turnout. This year we are experiencing the lowest number of volunteers that we have had in the last four years.

We have faith that the goal of $72,500 dollars can be reached but we also recognize that volunteers are the avenue by which this goal will be attained. Our community has always been generous with its time and with its financial support for the Salvation Army.

And we now call on our community once again to make this 2009 Red Kettle Campaign a success for those who will count on us this Christmas season and throughout the coming year.

They currently have six locations set up in Leavenworth to ring the bell.

They are: two at Walmart, Kmart, Country Mart, Dillon’s and Walgreens.

The Salvation Army is asking our friends and neighbors to give the gift of themselves this Christmas season and volunteer to ring the bell.

We have shifts from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., 1-5 p.m. and 5-9 p.m. available.

If you, your group, business, church, school or family would like to volunteer and ring bells for the Salvation Army, please contact Capt. Mark Nance from 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays or 2-9 p.m. Sundays.

Mark Nance,

Leavenworth
