Linenberger: Storm ‘the castle’
There’s a great way to step back in time later this week without hunting down a flux-capacitor-equipped DeLorean.
The eighth annual Madrigal Feaste will take place Friday and Saturday evening at the Tonganoxie Middle School commons area.
The “castle doors” open at 6 p.m. both nights and the processional begins at 6:30 p.m.
There are many holiday traditions this time of year, but I think one would be hard-pressed to find such a yuletide tradition elsewhere.
The event, which the Tonganoxie Vocal Music Department presents, provides a trip to Merrie Olde England.
Seriously, where else can you go this time of year for a hearty toast from the wassail bowl, a procession of a boar’s head and a flaming dessert?
Of course, Tonganoxie youths also will provide serenading minstrels and a royal concert, as the Tonganoxie Middle School eighth-grade choir, Tonganoxie High School concert choir and THS Chieftain Singers will perform.
Advance tickets can be purchased for a minimum contribution of $15 each. Long-stemmed roses also can be purchased for “thy lady” at the Grand Hall of the castle.
The amount of work that goes into the two-day event is extensive, but it’s something for which students, parents and others in the community should be proud.
Reservations may be made by calling THS at (913) 845-2654.
