Aunt Norie’s Sewing Room

By Eleanor Mckee - | Dec 23, 2009

I received a jolly little note from a very clever mom, which reminds me of what my dad often said when the family, or any member of the family, had a peculiar or seemingly unsolvable problem, usually kid stuff.

He’d look at mom and then say, “Oh just leave it to your mom. She’ll figure it out or find a way to do just that.” She always did or together they did.

She just signed as Nancy but she wrote: “I’ve been reading you for years and well remember your men’s sock trick when you said to use the ribbed top for replacing worn-out knit cuffs, which I’ve done several times, with the variety of colors in socks. You can easily find the right color and they wear so well and stretch and give just like regular cuffs.

“Well now, I have a new one still using those men’s ribbed sock tops. My son’s jacket sleeves were just too short, a perfectly good jacket is also his favorite one. I just added a cuff where there never had been one.”

She also suggested using ladies softer tops for knit shirts or garments, like her daughter’s nightgown sleeves.

Great ideas, Nancy. Thanks so much for sharing.

Barbara Johnson, who gave us “Splashes of Joy” (book full of laughs) says: “Laugh and the world laughs with you. Cry and you simply get wet.”

That book itself would make a great gift for any occasion.

God bless you all this Christmas.Aunt Norie, P.O. Box 265, Tonganoxie 66086; auntnorie@att.net.
