Rob Schlicht tries to hang on to a rebound against Bonner Springs on Tuesday. The Tonganoxie High senior guard was one of 10 Chieftains to score against the Braves in an 83-62 THS victory.

Ten Chieftains played and each one entered the scoring column Tuesday night as Tonganoxie High’s boys basketball team rolled to an 83-62 win against Bonner Springs.

Among Tonganoxie’s starting five, only point guard Jeremy Carlisle, who scored three points, didn’t reach double figures. Senior forward Jamie Everett led the way with 18, Keaton Schaffer had 17, Austin Smith scored 14 points and dominated the glass, grabbing 17 rebounds, and Jace Waters hit a pair of threes and finished with 10 points.

The Braves cut the THS lead to two with 4:14 to go in the third quarter but Schaffer responded with a three-point play inside that sparked a 15-2 run to close the period.

Tonganoxie (9-6) then blew the game wide open with an 11-3 run to open the fourth quarter, getting six points from Everett and five from Schaffer — although two of Schaffer’s could have easily gone to Waters, who had an uncontested layup after a steal but unselfishly dished it to Schaffer for a transition basket.

Tonganoxie will play host to Santa Fe Trail on Friday. The game can be viewed on Sunflower Broadband Ch. 6 later that night at 10:30 p.m. and on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
