By Mirror Staff Reports - | Feb 20, 2009

Tonganoxie High senior wrestlers Matt Brock and Steve Davis went undefeated on Friday, securing a place in the Class 4A regional finals at Abilene.

The performances of the two Chieftains also means both grapplers already have qualified for the state tournament in Salina on Feb. 27-28.

The championship matches for Brock (140) and Davis (189) will be held Saturday at Abilene.

A few other Chieftains picked up Friday victories at the regional. Freshman Caleb Himpel (119) was 1-1, senior Jon Harris (135) lost in a semifinal and finished 2-1, junior Jeremy Elliott (160) went 1-1, as did junior Jeremie Maus (171).

All other Chieftain wrestlers were 0-1 but they are still alive with consolation-bracket matches beginning Saturday morning.

After a day of action, THS stood in eighth place in the team standings with 56 points but Tonganoxie is just 11.5 points behind third-place Jeff West. Abilene (152 points) and Clay Center (124) are out in front of the other 13 teams at the regional.
