No medals for Tonganoxie wrestlers

By Mirror Staff Reports - | Feb 28, 2009

Steve Davis fell in the consolation quarterfinals at the state wrestling tournament, ending the 189-pound Tonganoxie senior’s career.

Davis was pinned by Jeff West’s Steven Skaggs, eliminating him from the tourney.

After winning three medals at the 2008 tournament, the Chieftains, who sent two grapplers to state this year, were unable to medal in 2009. Davis, in his second straight trip to state, fell one win shy of a medal.

Opening THS consolation matches

Matt Brock’s Tonganoxie High wrestling career came to an end Saturday morning at the Class 4A state tournament in Salina.

Brock, a 140-pound senior who went 1-1 on Friday, winning his first match and losing his second, lost his first consolation round match to Zach Reeb of Jeff West by a 12-0 major decision.

However, the Chieftains’ other state qualifier, 189-pound senior Davis, remains alive following a Saturday morning victory in his consolation bracket.

Davis, too, was 1-1 the first day with a first-round win. He improved to 2-1 by pinning Jordan Osladil of Ottawa in his first consolation-bracket match.

Next up for Davis is Jeff West’s Steven Skaggs in a consolation quarterfinal. A win in that match would assure Davis of a medal.
