Letter to the editor: community generous during holiday season

By Staff | Jan 7, 2009

To the editor:

What a great community we live in!

This holiday season confirmed what many of us already knew. Some of us at the Good Shepherd expected donations to be less this year. After all, the economy pinch has been felt by us all, some more than others. what a surprise we were in for! Businesses and individuals who haven’t given before made their contribution, as well as our many faithful supporters. Kansas City has nothing on us with their “secret Santa” handing out $100 bills.

Tonganoxie had a “secret Santa” who gave $100 bills to the Good Shepherd!

To all of you who sent checks, organized food drives, gave food, baked cookies for the Christmas baskets, adopted families (and there were many this year), thank you so much.

Thank you to our faithful volunteers for your many hours of service. It could not have been done without you. Thank you to our many “shepherds” who are not regular volunteers but are always there helping out behind the scenes. Many of you helped out when the carpet was replaced. Whenever something needs fixing our “shepherds” are always there to help out. To the people of Tonganoxie, we thank you for your support during the past year and this holiday season. May you all have a joyous New Year!
