Tonganoxie too much for Turner

The Chieftains stuck to their winning ways in a Kaw Valley League matchup with visiting Turner on Tuesday night at Tonganoxie High as both the boys and girls squads notched their third straight league victory.
Tonganoxie boys 51, K.C. Turner 46
Senior center Austin Smith had 14 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks to help Tonganoxie improve to 3-0 in Kaw Valley League play.
The Chieftains (4-2) had just a two-point lead entering the fourth quarter and trailed by a point at one juncture before Smith scored on a putback to give THS the lead for good. Smith followed that bucket with a steal and a layup to give THS even more momentum.
Junior forward Keaton Schaffer scored 11 for Tonganoxie and sophomore point guard Jeremy Carlisle had 10.

The Chieftains held the Bears to single digits in each of the first three quarters and THS coasted to a 20-point victory.
Tonganoxie opened the game on a 14-0 run and had a 9-0 run in the second quarter to give the team a comfortable cushion.
Senior point guard Chrissie Jeannin had 15 points, nine rebounds and three assists for Tonganoxie (5-1 overall, 3-0 Kaw Valley League). Fellow senior Roni Grizzle scored 12.
