The Chieftain boys advanced to the final of the Tonganoxie Invitational with a 61-50 defeat of Eudora in a semifinal Friday night.

THS (6-3) shot 51 percent from the field and held Eudora (7-2) to 27 percent shooting as the Chieftains methodically built a lead that became too much for the Cardinals to overcome in the fourth quarter.

Eudora’s Justin Ballock had game-highs of 22 points and seven rebounds but his numbers weren’t enough to counter a balanced Chieftains scoring attack that featured three double-digit scorers — Keaton Schaffer (19), Jamie Everett (12) and sub Brandon Yoder (10) — plus a nine-point effort from Jeremy Carlisle.

The game was tied at 20 with 4:47 to go in the second quarter when Ballock sank a pair of free throws, but six seconds later, Everett was fouled and he hit two of his eight game-high freebies to give the Chieftains the lead for good.

Tonganoxie will play De Soto on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. as the team tries to win its first invitational since 1994.

Eudora will take on Lansing in the third-place game at 2:30 p.m.
