Second teacher suspended during investigation into inappropriate relationship with student
Another teacher in the Basehor-Linwood School District has been suspended in connection to allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior with a student.
The behavior allegedly took place between the 29-year-old teacher and the 17-year-old student at the time the student was 15 and continued until she was 16.
Basehor Police Chief Lloyd Martley said police had investigated the teacher for sexual exploitation of a child and electronic sexual solicitation.
Police uncovered information about this case when investigating a different case involving a 44-year-old teacher and the same female student. The inappropriate relationship between this teacher and the student allegedly took place during the 2008-2009 school year, and the teacher was suspended May 20.
The two teachers are suspended with pay and will remain on suspension for the duration of the active cases.
Both cases have been turned over to the Leavenworth County District Attorney’s office, but no charges have been filed.
Basehor-Linwood Superintendent David Howard said district officials have had several discussions on the matter, but said he could not disclose any details.
“We’re taking steps to be proactive,” Howard said.
Howard also said the district wanted to protect parties involved in the case, as it was still pending with no charges filed.
“We want to try to protect both the student and the staff during this,” Howard said. “It’s sometimes hard to do that in a small town, but we’re doing our best.”
Basehor-Linwood Board of Education vice president Eric Dove said he had not received any phone calls from parents in the district concerning the cases and declined from commenting any further.
