Enrollment dates around corner for Tonganoxie, McLouth schools

July 29, 2009

The time to start preparing for another school year is nearly here.

And in the Tonganoxie School District, that means a new way to enroll.

The Tonganoxie School District will begin centralized enrollment Thursday, Aug. 6 and Friday, Aug. 7.

The new system will allow parents to enroll all of their children at one location — the Chieftain Room at Tonganoxie High School — instead of enrolling them at each child’s respective building.

Individual school buildings and their offices will be closed during centralized enrollment.

On Aug. 6, enrollment will be 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Enrollment times on Aug. 7 are set for 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

Representatives from various district departments, such as transportation and food service, as well as school nurses, principals and building office staff will be available. In addition, a supervised play area is available for younger children not involved in enrollment. Sign-up tables for organizations will be available, as will various other school district forms.

Anyone unable to make the regularly scheduled enrollment times for their students can call the building the students will be attending to make other arrangements.

McLouth enrollment

Enrollment for all McLouth students, grades kindergarten through 12, will take place from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday, and 8:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Aug. 5 in the school cafeteria.

Textbook and technology fees will be due at enrollment. Textbook fees are $40 per elementary student and $45 per middle/high school student. Technology fees are $10 per elementary student and $15 per middle/high school student. Athletic fees may also be paid at enrollment — $20 per sport. Student-parent handbook information, class schedules and locker assignments will be distributed.

Lunch money may be deposited at enrollment on Aug. 4 and 5, or mailed or delivered to the school offices any time. All patrons are encouraged to deposit lunch money before the first day of school to ensure that funds are available for their student on Aug. 18.

Breakfast and lunch prices are as follows:

Individual prices

K-5 breakfast, $1.15 and 6-12 breakfast, $1.20.

K-5 lunch, $1.85 and 6-12 lunch, $2.

The first day of classes for the 2009-10 school year will be Tuesday, Aug. 18. The first day will run 8:10 a.m.-1:35 p.m.
