Work continues on improvements to U.S. Highway 24-40 and Main St.

By Staff Reports - | Jul 29, 2009

Jason Hoskinson, with BG Consultants, the city’s engineering firm, said a substantial amount of work on the southern part of the intersection at U.S. Highway 24-40 and Main Street should be completed by the middle of September, weather permitting.

“There may be some minor work after that, doing clean-up work or installing the traffic signal poles on the foundations, but the work should be minor at most,” he said.

Once traffic is open again on the southern half of the intersection, construction will begin on the northern half of Main Street.

Hoskinson said, weather permitting, King’s Construction Company is scheduled to complete the entire project, including the installation of new traffic signals, by the end of October.

King’s Construction Company won the contract to improve the intersection with its $648,072.95 bid.

The Kansas Department of Transportation has pledged $600,000 for the project. The project will also include right-lane deceleration lanes at the intersection, as well as a new right turn lane at Laming Road.
