Tonganoxie baseball hosting regional

By Mirror Staff Reports - | May 12, 2009

Beginning Monday at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds, the Tonganoxie High baseball team will be playing host to a Class 4A regional. The winner of the eight-team tournament punches its ticket to the state tournament May 29 and 30 in Salina.

Competing with the Chieftains for that right will be Baldwin, DeSoto, Eudora, Jeff West, Ottawa, Perry-Lecompton and Santa Fe Trail.

Of potential foes outside the Kaw Valley League, THS has only faced Jeff West. Tonganoxie swept the Tigers at home on April 7, winning 8-7 and 15-3.

Perry-Lecompton and Santa Fe Trail, both KVL teams, are on Tonganoxie’s schedule this year. But rainouts moved both of those matchups to this week.

THS lost, 9-7, Monday at Perry-Lecompton.

The Chieftains played a doubleheader with Santa Fe Trail on Tuesday after The Mirror’s deadline.

Regional matchups and schedules will be released by KSHSAA today. Go to tonganoxiemirror.com to find out when and against whom the Chieftains will be playing.
