Wet grounds force cancellation of fall festival
For the second time in its history, Lansing’s Autumn in the Grove has been cancelled.
City officials made the call Friday morning to call off the popular festival this year, citing the condition of Kelly Grove Park after a day of soaking rains Thursday.
“ Autumn in the Grove, is cancelled due to overwhelmingly wet/soggy conditions at Kelly Grove Park,” the city said in a news release issued late Friday morning. “Thursday’s heavy rain coupled with the park being located in a low-lying area forced city officials to cancel the event.”
The festival features fall delights, including a scarecrow contest, storytelling and music. It also serves as a fundraiser for several community organizations.
Despite the festival's cancellation, the Lansing Lions will conduct its pancake feed on Saturday. The Lions Club will serve the breakfast at the Community Center starting at 8 a,m.
In 2007, rainshowers the morning of the event caused officials to cancel the festival, which was inaugurated in 2006.
