Chieftain cross country teams finish 5th in KVL

October 16, 2009

The boys and girls cross country teams from Tonganoxie High finished in fifth place on Thursday at the Kaw Valley League championship meet in Shawnee.

Mill Valley’s girls and boys won league titles, while individual crowns went to Katie Hirsch, Perry-Lecompton, and Brooks Ballou, Bonner Springs.

The Chieftains had two runners finish in the top 20 of both races. In the girls 4K, senior Andie Jeannin placed 14th after getting tripped up in some mud early on, which knocked her off her usual pace. Alex Hauk also ran well for THS, placing 18th.

In the boys 5K, sophomore Caleb Himpel finished 13th, just a few seconds away from the top 10, with a time of 18:13. Dalton Harrington was close behind him at 18th (18:30).

On Saturday, Oct. 24, the Tonganoxie runners will compete at a Class 4A regional at Wyandotte County Park, where state championship berths will be on the line.
