Day trip possibility? Vintage baseball game at Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum

By Staff | Aug 5, 2010

The Abilene IronCutters once again will face the Cowtown 9, donning uniforms from the 1860s and playing vintage baseball, this time at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, on the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum grounds in Abilene.

“Spectators will find this version of baseball significantly different from today’s game,” said Tim Rives, deputy director. “Everything from the pitching style to the rules around catching the ball is different. For example, outfielders can catch the ball on one bounce for an out. Additionally, no sliding, base stealing and absolutely no swearing is allowed.”

The program is free and open to the public. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and sunscreen. RSVPs are appreciated and can be made at the library and museum’s Facebook page or by calling (785) 263-6700.
