Senior Tonganoxie High wrestler Jeremie Maus (171 pounds) was knocked out of title contention Friday afternoon at the Class 4A state wrestling tournament in Salina.

Maus lost, 10-2, in a quarterfinal match against Taylor Baird, Pratt, at the Bicentennial Center.

The setback moves Maus to the consolation bracket, where he will wrestle the winner of a match between Clint Janzen, Hesston, and Heath Parmley, Baldwin.

Entering state, Maus hoped to place, and he is still in contention to reach that goal.

Tonganoxie High’s two representatives at the Class 4A state wrestling tournament in Salina, 130-pound junior Tyler Hand and 171-pound senior Jeremie Maus, already have completed their first-round matches.

Maus advanced to the second round with an 8-2 victory over Blaine Tholstrup, Concordia.

But Hand was forced to the consolation bracket after being pinned by Tyson Schmidtberger of Russell in 1:45.

Hand is scheduled to wrestle Josh Thoele, Prairie View, in the first round of the consolation bracket. The loser will be eliminated.
