25th annual Tonganoxie Days approaching

Barbecue, vendors and musical entertainment once again will highlight Tonganoxie Days.

The event is Friday, June 11 and Saturday, June 12 throughout Tonganoxie. This also is the 25th annual installment of the festival.

On June 11, teams will be preparing for the Leavenworth County State Barbecue Championship at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.

On June 12, festivities will start with the 23rd annual Friends of the Library 10K and 5K run and 5K walk. It begins at 7:30 a.m. Arts and crafts and food vendors will be out and about from 9-4 p.m.

A car and truck show at VFW Park is 9-4 p.m. with a Flag Day salute taking place at noon.

The Tonganoxie Community Historic Site will be open for tours. The site also will be the venue for a quilt show taking place in conjunction with the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Altar Society.

Other events June 12:

• Kansas Miniature Horse Club Fun Show from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.

• Bingo Night at Sacred Heart Parish Center, starting at 5:45 p.m. at the church, U.S. Highway 24-40 and Washington Street.

• Various music, dance and other entertainment in downtown Tonganoxie.
