Post 41 win-streak at 4

By Mirror Staff Reports - | Jun 24, 2010

The Post 41 baseball team extended its winning streak to four games on Tuesday with a home sweep of the Leavenworth Diamond Jaxx.

Tonganoxie, which started the season 0-4, swept its second straight twinbill with wins of 10-4 and 11-7 at Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.

Coach Pat Bailey said the defense was a little sloppy at times — errors led to Leavenworth’s high run total — but the important thing was Tonganoxie got the results it needed.

“In spite of not playing our best baseball, we managed to get a couple of wins,” Bailey said.

Post 41 (4-4) got out to an early lead in the first victory, getting three runs in the bottom of the first inning before extending its lead to 9-1 after a six-run second.

Tyler Ogden went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in the win. Jon Harris was 2-for-4 and also doubled and scored twice. Cody Saladin had a double as well, walked twice and scored a run.

Austin Harkrader picked up a victory on the mound with four-plus innings of work that included six strikeouts and three hits.

Jake Stauch entered in relief in the fifth and struck out two in just over two innings.

The second victory of the evening came after just five innings and Post 41 scored five in the second to get the separation it needed for a win.

Ogden was 2-for-2 and scored twice and Harkrader went 2-for-2 with one run scored.

Ogden was the starting pitcher but he and Dallas Keller split the time on the bump for Tonganoxie with each pitching two-plus innings. Keller fanned five Diamond Jaxx batters and Ogden struck out two.

Tonganoxie has another home doubleheader Friday night at 6 p.m., when Geiger visits the fairgrounds.
