McLouth happenings

By Beverly Muzzy - | Jun 29, 2010

On Father’s Day, Bob Ryan was honored with a barbecue riblet dinner at his home, cooked by his daughter, Susan, and her husband, Derek Ong, of Ozawkie. Others enjoying the dinner were Bob’s wife, Alfreda; Viola Edmonds, McLouth; granddaughter, Shanna, with Justin, Jacie and Scott, of Lawrence.

That afternoon, Bob and Alfreda celebrated the 4th birthday of their great-granddaughter, Lauren Mance, with homemade ice cream and cake, in Leavenworth.

• McLouth Fire Department’s annual pancake feed begins at 6:30 a.m. and closes at 1 p.m. Saturday at the McLouth Fire Station.

• Virginia Mills, Tonganoxie, will celebrate her 80th birthday with a party at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Stanwood Friends Church (located west of Highway 16 between McLouth and Tonganoxie). Friends are invited to the celebration. Family and friends are playing host to the event at Stanwood. No gifts please, only cards and memories.

• Please note this change in location for McLouth Fireworks Display.

McLouth’s July 4 fireworks display will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. Sunday. This year the fire department will be firing the fireworks from Rose Park. The best viewing will be from the bleachers at the football field. On Sunday, no one will be allowed in Rose Park because of display setup (Do not bring personal fireworks to shoot). Enjoy an evening of family fun. Sponsored by McLouth Recreation Commission, City of McLouth, McLouth Kiwanis Club and McLouth Fire Department.

• The primary election is Tuesday, Aug. 3. Several issues will be “finally decided” in August, and may not appear on the November ballot. Deadline to register for the election is July 19. Are you registered to vote? If not, please contact your courthouse.
