Royals to honor Leavenworth County Boy Scout

By Special To The Mirror - | May 24, 2010

A Leavenworth County Cub Scout threw out the first pitch Sunday at the Kansas City Royals game with the Colorado Rockies.

David Marshall Bornn III, 9, of Easton, earned the honor as the top seller of Trails End Popcorn during a recent BSA fundraiser for Cub Scout Packs 3164 and 3165, sponsored by the Lansing and Easton Lions Club. Marshall, a WEBELO Scout, sold more than $4,000 worth of popcorn. That was more than any Cub Scout in the Heart of America Council (Headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri) which encompasses over eighteen counties located in North Eastern Kansas and North Western Missouri

Marshall was joined in throwing out the first pitch by his grandfather, Stormy Obering of Norco, Calif., a former US Marine who served during the Vietnam conflict (in Okinawa, Japan) and was instrumental in helping Marshall during his fundraiser. Sunday’s game was the Royals’ Scout Night, honoring the region’s Scout troops.

The boy’s father, Army Maj. David Bornn Jr. is an Iraq and Afghanistan war veteran, having serving multiple tours in both regions, who is currently serving on the staff at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth. The senior Bornn also is the leader of his son’s Cub Scout Den and Pack in Easton.
