Two Nortonville women killed in five-vehicle pileup near Linwood
A five-vehicle crash Saturday near Linwood claimed the lives of two women.
Barbara S. Helton, 66, and Patricia S. Helton, 45, both of Nortonville, were killed in the crash, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
A Tonganoxie man, 18-year-old Dylan Faulconer, also was involved in the wreck.
The crash occurred about 2:55 p.m. Saturday at Kansas Highway 32 and 222nd Street when a 2001 Chevrolet truck driven by David B. Cluck, 46, of Troy, failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a 1996 GMC truck driven by Michael W. Sprowl, 40, Bonner Springs. The Chevrolet truck was headed south on 222nd Street, while the GMC truck was headed east on Kansas Highway 32.
The Chevrolet truck continued through the intersection after colliding with the GMC truck and then hit a 1995 Toyota SUV with three people in it, a 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle with two riders and a 2006 Chevrolet car driven by Nicholas P. Patneaude, 18, of Defiance, Ohio, according to KHP reports.
The driver of the Chevrolet truck, David Cluck, as well as another passenger, Jeannette D. Cluck, were taken to Kansas University Hospital. They were listed in fair condition, a hospital official said late Monday morning. They were not wearing seatbelts, nor were the two Nortonville women who were ejected from the truck Cluck was driving.
Sprowl, the driver of the GMC truck, was possibly injured, according to reports. He was wearing a seatbelt.
The Toyota SUV had three people in it, all of whom also had possible injuries. In addition to Faulconer, who was the driver, passengers Justin D. Paul, 20, Springfield, Mass., and Jordan Briones, 18, Kansas City, Kan., also were in the vehicle.
The motorcycle driver, Dennis J. Maurer, 55, and a passenger, Cheryl L. Maurer, 49, both of Oskaloosa, were not injured. The driver of the Chevrolet car, Patneaude, suffered possible injuries, reports said.
