November 9, 2010

Tonganoxie High School Theater Arts and Music departments are staging the musical “Little Shop of Horrors” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Tonganoxie Performing Arts Center.

The play is based on an off-broadway musical based on a 1960 Roger Korman horror film. It also was made into a 1986 movie starring Rick Moranis and Steve Martin, as well as John Candy and Bill Murray.

The cast includes Brady Field as Seymour Krelborn, Alexis Faherty as his secret crush, Audrey, Keith Slater as the sadistic dentist, and Bryson Hewins as the voice of the plant, Audrey II.

The show requires multiple sets, including a florist shop, New York’s skid row and a dentist shop. The plant “grows” during production from a small potted plant to a large plant that takes four student puppeteers to operate.

Also in the cast: Beth Jobst, Taylor Clark, Ashley Forbis, Chris Tiner, Mallory Harrell and Katelyn Colgrove as the street urchins, Michael Christensen as the customer, Matthew Briggs as Bernstein, Rachel Sparks as Mrs. Luce, Daniel Monahan as Skip Snip and Marcus Titterington as Patrick Martin.

Skid Row residents are Rachel Collinge, Miranda Bontrager, Kelsi Briggs, Daniel Monahan, Caila McPherson, Jessica Sommers, Aaron McIntyre, Madison Hunter, Lacie Falk, Austin Searcy, Victoria Stiles, Megan Woods, Jonathan Duvall, Paige Lauri, Jody Baragary, Rachel Woods and Christa Firuccia.

Jennifer Stinson, Alex Hauk, Hank Somers and Austin Searcy are the puppeteers for Audrey II while stage managers are Jackie Chenoweth, Lauren Hughes, Allie Irick and Carrie Calovich.

Directors are Steve Harrell and Kenneth Church, vocal director is Tom Gifford and instrumental director is Heather Brown.

Student choreographer is Kelsey Dunning.

In the pit band are Brown, Amy Wilkens, Dylan Haufler, Nikki Pennington, Wesley Williams, Jeff Neal and Richard Black.
