McLouth resident wins with Kansas Lottery — again
Carol Mullenix has played the Kansas Lottery’s 2by2 game since its inception in 2002, she said. After studying the Kansas Lottery frequency charts, which are in the Lottery’s Kansas Winners publication, the McLouth resident decided to pick her own numbers. Her “studying” paid off earlier this month with a $22,002 top prize winning ticket.
Mullenix, who matched both Red 02 and 14 and White 20 and 22 in the Nov. 5 drawing, won the top prize of $22,000. In addition, she matched Red 02 and 09, winning $2 on her $3 multi-draw ticket, bringing her total winnings to $22,002 on Nov. 5.
“My husband Doug and I were playing Bingo at the (Eagles) Lodge Friday night, so we missed seeing the numbers on the nightly news,” explained the 69-year-old winner. “When I woke up Saturday morning, I called the Lottery’s hotline for the numbers. When I heard my numbers, I hung up and had to call again.”
Although this is the biggest win for Mullinex, she has also won $5,000 playing a $5 Super Red Hot Crossword instant scratch game and has won $1,000 twice playing instant scratch games.
“I’ve been pretty lucky,” said Mullenix. “Playing lottery games is something I really enjoy.”
Mullenix and her husband have been married 52 years. They have four children, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. They would like to plan a trip to Las Vegas with their winnings.
The winning ticket was purchased at Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 309, 1803 W. Sixth St. in Lawrence.
